Early 2001

Dear friends,

after a very successful year 2000 DEREVO will start into the new Millenium in Queen Elizabeth Hall in London where we will take part in the London International Mime Festival for the fourth consecutive year (see Tourplan 2001). But first let's look back at 2000:

DEREVO was honoured with four prizes in Germany, France and México:

In March the company was awarded the "Support Prize for Performing Arts" as part of "Kunstpreis Berlin 2000" at "Akademie der Künste" in Berlin in March.

On 15. September we were presented with the "Innovation Prize" of the culture funding organization "Ludwig Forum" in the German city of Aachen.

Last but not least: the international critics jury at MIMOS Festival in Périgeux (France) decided to award "REFLECTION" with the PRIX DU JURY DE PRESSE in August and in December the organisation "Asociación Mexicana de Criticos d Teatro" gave ONCE... the "Premio a lo mejor del teatro internacional en el ano 2000".

Two new projects marked the year 2000 for DEREVO:

"SÜD.GRENZE", the first ever DEREVO movie was finished after nearly three years of work. It is a 16mm black and white movie directed by Anton Adassinski and produced by the company itself about the last day of GAUCHO, creator of the "theory of the mask" on this planet. The film will play the Göteborg Film Festival 2001 in February (see Tourplan).

"SUICIDE" is the title of the new performance we have been working on since spring 2000. The first open try-outs were played in Dresden. In March we will continue the work in St. Petersburg, before "SUICIDE" will play th "Golden Mask" Festival in Moscow as Nominée for the "Innovation-Prize".

Three other performances will stay in the repertoire of DEREVO for 2001:

"ONCE...", winner of "FRINGE FIRST" and "HERALD ANGEL" at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 1998 in the meantime made it's way onto big stages. In 2000 "ONCE..." travelled overseas and was presented in Hong Kong, Korea and México.

 "THE RIDER" winner of PRIX MIMOS 1998, has been renewed. We will play it in London in January and tour Sweden in February.

"REFLECTION" winner of PRIX MIMOS 2000, the solo performance by Tanya Khabarova had appearances at dance festivals in Poland, Belgium, Hungary, Czech Republic, England, Brazil and Germany.
